Blockade protested through literature

Nawalparasi,  Literary writers and artists expressed their protest against the unofficial Indian blockade through their creations.

The freedom of expression practitioners presented the model of literary protest against the Indian atrocities through songs, poems, gazal and drama.
On the occasion, literary writers including Bhupendra Sharma Bhattarai, Jeevan Sapkota, Deepak Raj Bhattarai, Deepak Swoti and Bimal Diwas cited their literary pieces. Likewise, a street drama written by Jeevan Sapkota and directed by Khagaraj Sapkota was demonstrated with the theme to protest the disruption of essentials on Nepal-India border.

Hoshrangdi declared fourth discrimination-free VDC

Parbat: Hoshrangdi VDC located in the southern belt has been declared the fourth caste discrimination free VDC of the district.

The declaration was made Wednesday after the leaders and representatives of political parties, civil society, ethnic organizations and locals of the VDC pledged to eliminate caste discriminatory practices.
Members of some 411 households of the VDC were present in the declaration programme organized by National Dalit Development Organization, Hoshrangdi VDC and Dalit Rights Monitoring Alliance Hoshrangdi with the assistance of Plan Nepal and Parbat District Development Committee.
There are 63 Dalit households in the VDC. Earlier, Majphant, Falamkhani and Pakhapani were declared caste discrimination free VDCs in Parbat.

‘Eco teacher’ bio-diversity conservation campaign on cards

Nawalparashi, The ‘Eco Teacher’ bio-diversity conversation and management campaign is on cards in Nawalparasi district.

The campaign is expected to help maintain ecological balance and thereby contribute to sustain livelihood of the people of the area.
Keeping this importance in mind the dissemination of importance of bio-diversity through eco-teacher should be reached out to communities, suggested participants who attended an interaction in Deurali.
A two-day interaction was organized by the Mahabharat Bio-Diversity Conservation and Concern Society for eco teachers of the schools in Ruchang, Naram and Deurali VDCs.
The teachers of the schools pledged to place campaign with the participation of students from grade 5 to 9.
The bio-diversity conservation programme has been implemented in six VDCs including five of Nawalparasi and Bhirubas of Palpa.

50 shelters handed to disabled earthquake victims

Bhaktapur, The Rural Disabled Coordination Committee, Changunarayan handed over 50 temporary shelters made up of iron-corrugated sheets to the earthquake victims living with disabilities.

The committee constructed the shelters with the assistance of various donors and handed over to the families with disabled, shared Committee Chairperson Gopal Prasad Pokharel.
It is noted that the committee also distributed foodstuffs, mosquito nets, blankets, noodles, beaten rice and four wheel-chairs to the quake-affected people living with disabilities.
As many as 40 disabled were provided with tracksuits and some 14 individuals and institutions who substantially contributed to the rescue and relief operations during the 25 April 2015 devastating earthquake were felicitated.
He also informed that they are preparing to open a Day-Care Centre in Changunarayan for people with disabilities. There are 140 disabled people in Changunarayan area.

Indigenous nationalities stage sit-in in front of Baluwatar

Kathmandu,  Indigenous nationalities have today staged sit-in in front of the official residence of the Prime Ministerial at Baluwatar, demanding their rights be incorporated in the new constitution.

They staged sit-in under the coordination Indigenous Nationalities Awareness Campaign. The campaign complained that the new constitution has failed to accommodate many of their rights.
The campaign also demanded that the government should end current fuel crisis and black marketing, ensure human rights and address concerns of the agitating parties through talks.

The campaign demanded proportional representation of indigenous nationalities Madhesis, Dalits and Muslims in all the organs of the state.

Arjun Maharjan, coordinator of the campaign, said that they would stage sit-in in front of the Nepal-based United Nations office and the Human Rights Commission office on December 18.

Motorcycle rider killed in accident

Damak,  A man died in a road accident that took place in Damak of Jhapa last night.

The deceased has been identified as Jogendra Limbu,27, of Taplejung currently living in Urlabari, Morang, the Area Police Office said. The accident involving a motorcycle (Ko. 22 Pa. 479) took place on the east-west highway after it hit a passenger bus (Na. 5 Kha. 4160).

The bus has been impounded and its driver arrested for necessary investigation, police inspector Charitra Bikram Karki said.

A Woman killed after being hit by an ox

Khotang : A woman has been killed after being hit by an ox in Diktel of Khotang.

Chandra Kumari Khatri,50, of Diktel municipality-1 was severely injured on Tuesday noon when the ox being used to plough her field shoved her on Tuesday. She succumbed to the injuries the same night, police said.

The incident reportedly took place as she tried to stop the ox from running away from the field.

Mobile apps to be used for teaching learning activities

Kathmandu,  The Government is to use mobile applications to help with the learning activities of Grade 10 students. This is being made available for students who will not be able to benefit from the radio programme that the government recently introduced.

Classes through radio, internet and mobile apps have been initiated with a target on around 2.2 million students across the country, Spokesperson at the Ministry of Education Dr Hari Lamsal said.

Classes in English, Mathematics, Health, Population and Environment will be aired through Radio Nepal and local FM radio stations, using the medium of news, radio reports, question and answer, short play and radio jingles.

Classes are also being aired through the state-owned Nepal Television, considering the needs of the students appearing the upcoming School Leaving Certificate examinations.

Woman donates 1.3 million rupees in memory of late husband

Myagdi, An elderly woman living at the old age home in Galeswor of Myagdi has donated her property to be used for various religious activities.

Bhadra Giri,77, of Bajung in Parbat donated property worth Rs. 1.3 million in memory of her late husband Hari Singh. The donation has been made for construction of a Shiva linga in Galeswor temple, construction of a statute of King Bharat, food arrangement for the elderly people and cash donation to the Sheshnag and Tulai matha, according to Office Secretary of the Galeswar Shivalaya Area Development Trust Yogendra KC.

Giri has been living in the old age home since the past 15 years, and has been involved in social work as well. “I cannot keep the property for myself, helping others is in fact religion”, she said.

Majority of youth in Nawalparasi on foreign employment

Nawalparasi,  Majority of the youth force in the hilly region of Nawalparasi are found to have been leaving the country for foreign employment.

More than 90 per cent of the youth in 17 hilly VDCs of the district are out of the country, with most of them in foreign employment, according to data made public by the Indreni Development Forum and Himalayan Community Development Forum. The majority of the youth going for foreign employment are men.

In Naram VDC, of the 450 households, more than 120 households have a member out on foreign employment.

The organizations have been helping out those going for foreign employment including the families of the migrant workers.
